High temperatures increase the risk of fires. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) notes that the global average temperature has increased by 1.1ºC since the pre-industrial era. In the summer of 2021, Las Vegas, United States, reached 47.2 ºC and the island of Sicily, in Italy, reported 48.8 °C.
